Medical visa for India
Patients travelling to India for treatment need a Medical Visa (M Visa). Accompanying family need a Medical Attendant Visa (MX Visa). Here is how it works — and how we help.
The Patient
Medical Visa (M Visa)
Issued to foreign nationals travelling to India specifically for medical treatment at a recognised hospital. Applications are made through the official Government of India visa portal, or at your nearest Indian Mission.
- You will need a hospital invitation letter — we issue this
- Preliminary medical advice from a doctor at home
- Recent medical reports and a valid passport
- Proof of funds and return travel
- Registration with the FRRO may be required after arrival
Your Family
Medical Attendant Visa (MX Visa)
Granted to family members accompanying the patient. It runs co-terminus with the patient’s Medical Visa — so it begins and ends with yours.
- For spouse, children or blood relatives
- Generally up to two attendants at a time
- Applied for using the patient’s medical reference details
- Same FRRO registration requirements apply

Medical visas are intended for serious conditions requiring specialised treatment. Commonly considered are:

Visa categories, validity periods, entry limits, fees and FRRO registration requirements are set by the Government of India and change from time to time. They also differ by nationality.
