Patient FAQs
From booking an appointment to going home — everything you need to know, answered simply.

Intensive Caring. Best of Care.Because knowing what happens next is part of feeling cared for
Coming into hospital is rarely just a medical event.
It is a disruption. There are forms to fill, a room to choose, a family member wondering where to wait, and a hundred small uncertainties that nobody thinks to explain — because to us they are routine, and to you they are not.
So we have written them down. What to bring. When to arrive. What the rooms are like. How long discharge really takes. None of it is complicated, but knowing it in advance takes one weight off a day that already has enough of them.
If something you need is not answered here, please just ask us. That is what our Inpatient Office and reception teams are there for.

Booking an Appointment
Seeing a doctor at SAL.
You can schedule an outpatient appointment by calling our appointment number, or by requesting one online through this website.
In an emergency, do not wait for an appointment. Come directly to our 24-hour Accident & Emergency department, or call us for guidance on the way.
Please arrive 15 minutes early and check in at the designated reception desk, so any formalities are completed before you see the doctor.
If you arrive late, you will be seen as a walk-in patient and your wait may be considerably longer. In some cases the visit may need to be rescheduled.
Please call us in advance to cancel or reschedule. An unused appointment slot is one another patient could have had — a quick call frees it up for someone who needs it.
Planning Your Admission
Before you come in.
If you and your doctor have already agreed a date, simply inform the Inpatient Office. If not, the Inpatient Office will help you decide a suitable date.
Please contact them well in advance, so that the necessary formalities and procedures can be completed before you arrive — it makes admission day far smoother.
Please bring your admission form, insurance card and photo identification. Having these ready speeds up the admission process considerably.
An admission note from your doctor also helps us complete the process faster.
The hospital provides dressing gowns, but you may prefer your own clothes, bedroom slippers and toiletries. Clothing should be loose and preferably front-opening.
Please leave all valuables at home.
On the Day of Admission
What happens when you arrive.
Most surgical patients are admitted on the morning of the planned surgery, and are usually asked to arrive about two hours before the scheduled time.
Some conditions require pre-operative preparation and anaesthetic evaluation, which may mean coming in a day earlier. Your doctor will tell you if this applies to you.
Come straight to the Admissions Office and present your documents to the receptionist.
All patients complete a Registration Form and an Admission Slip on arrival. The form requires the signatures of the first and second relatives. A registration fee of ₹300 applies.
You will then be given an In-Patient Number (IP No.) — please quote this for any enquiry during your stay.
Yes. A deposit is submitted at the Patient Billing Department on admission. The amount depends on the room class you choose and the type of case.
You will be reminded for further deposits as the deposited amount is used up. Payments are accepted by cash, demand draft, local pay order or credit card.
Your Room & Your Stay
Accommodation, meals and facilities.
Our Admissions Office will help you choose the class of room or bed that suits you:

A set of linen is provided in Special rooms, including for the patient’s attendant. In Semi-Special rooms, linen is issued at night against the attendant’s pass.
Yes — the patient’s diet is included in the room charges.
For attendants, a dining facility is available in the cafeteria on the ground floor.
To activate local, STD or ISD facilities in your room, please contact 555 or 999.

Checkout time is 12.00 noon.
Going Home
The discharge process.
A patient can be discharged only on the advice of the treating consultant. Please allow at least two hours for the discharge formalities to be completed.
Once your bill is ready, the billing department will call you in your room — please wait there until then.
After the final bill is settled in the billing section, you will be given a discharge authorisation slip.
Present this at the nursing station, and they will hand over all your reports and documents. Please remember to sign the register after collecting them.
